The public services for reading are the fundamental tool for the spread of literacy in our society. The Foundation has played a major role in this field for librarians in Spanish-speaking countries. The foundation has focused its strategy on innovation library planning, managing and evaluating in order to bring closer the library to people and ensure the equity in citizens' access to reading. The Foundation has developed a pioneering model of library in Spain in its International Children's and Young Book Centre (Salamanca). We built with the experience gained by the professional team since 1985 a whole resource set of training products and information services for professionals as well as a large number of projects with families and schools. This unique library houses from pre-readers activities or the reading with an educational purpose to leisure suggestions about video games. The most representative in this field is the Public Library at Peñaranda de Bracamonte, managed by the Foundation since 1989, considered a model for the renovation and development of public libraries in Spain and Latin-America.

The importance the Foundation grants to public libraries has forced us to develop studies and tools such as the Bibliography or the professional library in the network of seeking to transfer the research, development and documentation made by the Foundation in this field.
