The Foundation carries out projects to boost literacy- in a broad sense- of society since we have the conviction that early ages is the foundation stage of reading culture. We think that every person is entitled to a quality education and every pupil to updated ICT resources in the school library.

The priority of the Fundación Germán Sánchez Ruipérez in the educational field has been to work for school library to become the centerpiece of the literacy strategy in schools.
The Foundation have implemented several research on the school library and on the implementation of ICT in education which may be consulted in digital resources.
In addition, the Foundation has a range of courses and tools in SOL and PLEC, as well as online services. The long experience of partnerships with schools showed us how to work in schools and what sorts of projects are needed by teachers and students. Likewise, the Foundation hosts a permanent training of teachers.
Since the beginning of our activity we were aware, not only of the useful instrumental role of the technologies, but also of the need to integrate ICT as a component of literacy.

The phenomenon of widespread use of ICT devices is considered by the Foundation as a great chance to enhance access to reading and writing among the youngest generations and specially during learning stages.

Thus, in 2006 CITA was created as a new center with a set of specialized skills in working with information technologies and communication within schools. The core of activity is focused in training: the most important effort is made in training courses addressing teachers, other professionals and students (see section on Training). Some of the surveys on the impact of ICT in the field of reading and education are available in Digital Resources section or digital publications.
