Fundación Germán Sánchez Ruipérez since its inception set up several innovation projects in the librarian network. The conviction is that a strong public library system is a fundamental basis of a literate society. The Foundation has developed a pioneering model of library in Spain in its International Children's and Young Book Centre (Salamanca). We built with the experience gained by the professional team since 1985 a whole resource set of training products and information services for professionals as well as a large number of projects with families and schools. This unique library houses from pre-readers activities or the reading with an educational purpose to leisure suggestions about video games. The most emblematic in this field is the Public Library at Peñaranda de Bracamonte, managed by the Foundation since 1989, considered a model for the renovation and development of public libraries in Spain and Latin-America. The view of our foundation is that libraries and their role in fostering literacy is a community joint undertaking is also spread through our training and papers produced by professionals in seminars and meetings. The importance the Foundation grants to public libraries has forced us to develop studies and tools such as the libraries Bibliography or the professional library web.
